Music Bio:

Recess is another product of the 80’s that discovered dance music as the disco era was officially declared dead. Raised on the industrial, new wave, and pop music of the time, in the late 80’s he quickly found his second home at the now defunct Club Underground in Seattle. Home for the likes of DJ Dan, MC Queen Lucky, and countless others who discovered their passion for dance music within the alternative community. As the rave scene hit Seattle in the late 80’s and early 90’s he recalls Underground Resident DJ Dominator (a.k.a. Donald Glaude) stopping the music to scream, “Rave muthafucker!” It was an exciting time for dance music as disco resurfaced in a new package for kids ready to break out of the conservative values set forth during the Reagan years.

In the years that followed, Recess’ excitement for music grew beyond simply raves and dance music into the realm of rock with local Seattle bands blowing up on the national scene. A weekend out could have easily included catching Mudhoney play live in a small bar one night, while hitting a map point party the next. As a close friend to a local DJ that played regularly at MachineWerks and the Catwalk, he quickly discovered the joys of mixing records (mostly pulling records out of his friend’s huge collection).

However, it wasn’t until finishing graduate school in the late 90’s that Recess finally found the time to devote to collecting and playing out. While helping a friend start and support the local club directory MINTY Magazine, Recess learned more about the industry from various perspectives (e.g., writing, interviewing artists, planning parties). Although the talent in Seattle at this time was nothing to complain about, the house music market seemed to become overwhelmingly saturated. He felt it needed a serious kick in the ass. In 2001, he thought he found it in a refreshing, new local event entitled Robo.Trash. Combining retro with future and crossing genres with a punk rock edge was everything he was looking for at the time and he began collecting records with a rediscovered passion. Since then he’s even more excited about the future of dance music. When Robo.Trash ended their night down at the Alibi Room he helped to keep the local alternative dance music scene alive by starting up Shameless.

Nearly a year at The Alibi Room included guests such as:

Samuel Kirkland, DJ Saigon, I-Monk, .greg., Miss Kick, Boyd Main, Zion 12, Tom Butcher (DJ), Jacob Martin, Jeff Samuel (Poker Flat), Chika, Mike Perkowitz, Mr. Mu Mu (PDX), Nordic Soul (DJ/Decibel Festival), Freaky Chakra (Astralwerks), Jerry Abstract, Paul Edwards, Corban,  Codebase (Live/Force), Kris Moon (live), NerveClinic (LA), DJ Tobias (Chicago), Randy Jones (ORAC), Bruno Pronsato (ORAC), Jacob London (Squid).

After a short break, Shameless united with Club YES! and returned as a monthly at The Re-Bar.  In collaboration with MC Anton Bomb (Club YES!),  FOC:EYE (VJ), DJ Scorpio, theperfectcyn, and Derek Fisher the events included:
