Dance yrself clean

Friday, December 30th, 2011

New Year’s Eve parties usually involve some serious planning. Otherwise you may find yourself unsuccessfully attempting to hail a cab at 11:49pm with just minutes to get across town before the clock hits midnight. We’ve all been there. This year Shameless recommends the following parties and yes, if you plan accordingly you may even be able to hit them all! Either way, they each represent a piece of Seattle’s vibrant underground dance music community that’s like no other city in this country. Ok maybe we’re a little biased. But we love you Seattle. Have a safe and happy new year!

See you at breakfast!

We’re always proud to see our hardworking local DJs/Producers getting recognition outside of our little corner of the world. Big ups to Astronomar of Filejerks for his latest release off Discobelle Records.

The Last Say What’? WHAT?!

Too cute. Too much good music. Too much fun… and too sad it may be the last show for now. After a fantastic, but short four month run, Say What may be on hold indefinitely. It’s future uncertain. And yet, the pictures remind us of how important it can be to never miss an opportunity to dance. To always seize the moments we have while they are still in front of us. Shameless has it’s plate full this summer and will continue to be very active in the local music scene. Unfortunately this is one of the reasons why we have to take a step back from Say What. We’re incredibly grateful to so many of you that supported and believed in this night. We hope it will resurface again sometime soon. But in the meantime, there are always these great pictures for us to remember the night…

Thanks to Dave Matthews for coming down last minute to take these incredible photos.

Say What! This Thursday! Truckasauras spotlight!

SAY WHAT! This Thursday at Chop Suey!

Fueled by an inhuman amount of Maker’s Mark and whatever kind of beer they can get their hands on, a bunch of self-proclaimed gear nerds have accumulated more firepower than Donald Trump. Armed with an arsenal of vintage Roland drum machines and synths, all sequenced by a modded first-gen Gameboy, Truckasauras create analog electro loops that skitter over starkly minimal drums; a sound (is it techno? is it hip-hop?) that straddles the chasm between goofiness and sincerity, and does so with aplomb. Citing influences ranging from Aphex Twin to 2 Live Crew, it’s next to impossible to pigeonhole the group into any one genre.

The Truck’s debut album, Tea Parties, Guns and Valor boasts 9 original tracks, a cover of the theme from “Airwolf,” and an array of remixes by some of the Northwest’s biggest names in electronic music: Copy, DJ Collage, and Jerry Abstract all try a hand at reworking the group’s signature sound.

The true Truck experience, however, is through their live sets. Fishing vests, trucker hats emblazoned with bald eagles, and American flags-as-capes are the fashion de rigueur for this crew, who stand in front of a projected VHS mashup of monster truck rallies, helicopter explosions, and homoerotic WWF matches. A pseudo-patriotic A/V extravaganza punctuated by megaphone squeals and synchronized (if unintentionally) head-bobbing, the foursome weave in and out of each other’s way, tweaking knobs over here, pushing buttons over there, all the while making the crowd go nuts with their quirky mix of white-trash sensibility and all-out musical mastery.

Say What?! – Round Two Tonight!

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Here’s what The Stranger had to say about tonight’s show…

You whippersnappers will be too young to remember this, but back in the day—say, like 2007—Chop Suey had the only decent 18-plus club night in town with a little monthly called Club Pop. Now two of Seattle’s most excessively ecstatic party crews, Shameless and Out for Stardom, have teamed up to present Say What! a new 18-plus dance night for a new generation of kids old enough to die for their country but not old enough to drink—with a bar for their 21-plus friends, of course. Tonight, Portland’s keytar-wielding electro auteur Copy will rock a live set, and local ADDJ Fourcolorzack will man the turntables, along with resident DJs Recess and Darwin. Now get off my lawn! Decibel Festival: bRave New World – 9/27

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

So as everyone in Seattle already knows, once a year we get treated to what’s becoming one of the world’s best electronic music festivals. This year will be the 5th annual and we here at Shameless are thrilled to be involved once again. For the 1st 4 years we’ve thrown the official Decibel Festival afterparties. This year we’ll be passing along the afterparty productions to some other local crews and instead teaming up with Antarctic Records to present bRave New World at Chop Suey on Sept 27th. Headlining are LA Riots and 33hz (Live). Both will keep the kids bRaving til the lights come up. Two rooms of music! Click the images below for more information…
