Shameless Social – ETG Love!

Sunday, August 4th, 2013

Shameless is proud to present another awesome edition of the Social! This month, we are celebrating the four years of love we’ve had with the Electric Tea Garden (and Oseao before it) by booking some of the folks behind the other fantastic monthlies hosted there. As you all know, our connections to ETG and the crews throwing events there are deep. We were one of the first serious monthlies there when it was still Oseao, and one of the only ones to keep going after it officially became ETG. We have collaborated with the folks from Uniting Souls, Sweatbox, Innerflight and Proper on numerous occasions, and we love the stuffing out of everyone in ETG’s fun, competent and dedicated staff. We want to return the love they’ve all given us by hosting a special edition of the Social honoring all of them. We hope you come out and support!

Ctrl_Alt_Dlt (Sweatbox, SpaceRock, From 0-1)

Ctrl_Alt_Dlt is a Seattle based DJ originally from suburban Detroit. He went to his first rave party in ’99 and was strongly influenced by the sounds coming out of the city. He started DJing in 2001 and naturally gravitated towards the Midwest’s dark, stark style of techno. Today, Ctrl_Alt_Dlt rides the fine line between techno and house, playing sets consisting of cerebral, psychedelic tracks that wring maximal power from minimal elements. In addition to a long standing residency at Seattle’s Electric Tea Garden, he’s also a founding member of Sweatbox, a strictly techno-based productions crew who’ve spearheaded numerous weekly, monthly, and one-off parties over the last 5 years, bringing the likes of Mark Henning, Derek Plaslaiko, Mikael Stavöstrand, Camea, and Dan Bell, to name but a small fraction. His production game is still in it’s infancy but he’s got early releases out on From 0-1, Peloton Muisque, Innerflight, and Mindshift Records, with more action on the horizon. He is also a contributing writer for Plasmodium and The Stranger.

Xan Lucero (De La Crème / Flammable / Proper)

www.thecontrolfreeks.net

Almost 20 years in the dj booth doesn’t lie, and neither does the dance floor … which is where Xan Lucero has spent the last 2 decades playing House and Techno Music. He has spent the better part of the last 15 years travelling America exploring its dj booths and dance floors playing a global brand of Underground Dance Music ; both on solo adventures as well as with his partner, Atom Bryce as The Control Freeks . Together with Atom and on his own , he has held residencies all around America , made parties, had raves, run record stores, started disco’s, helped with various record labels and has generally lived his life playing music for people that want to hear it .

Xan has recently relocated back to Seattle and is enjoying a packed schedule of holding down resident duties for legendary West Coast House Music institution Flammable ,and has been picked up by the NW staple brand , De La Creme , as well as hosting his own monthly and weekly parties , and continues to guest and tour around America.

Karl Kamakahi ( (De La Crème / Proper)

Manos (Innerflight Music)
www.innerflight.com

An integral part of the Innerflight record label and music collective, dj Manos exemplifies a fresh and funky groove that pulses with prismatic energy to stimulate the mind, open the heart, and move the body. Known for dosing Seattle dance floors with everything from acid-laden techno and house to reverie-inducing experimental and starryeyed electronica, his musical adventures traverse divergent sonic terrains but nearly always venture into psychedelic territory. At once sensuous and sentient, bizarre and macabre, his motley assortment of muses include the mid 90s Minneapolis rave scene, industrial, punk, and hip-hop albums of the late 80s/early 90s, classical music, and The Beatles. Presently, this penchant for dissent and the transgressive has aligned with his bohemian spirit, awakening an enigmatic yet unmistakable artistic sensibility that resonates on multiple levels with dancers and heads alike. Whether rocking an all-night underground party at the break of dawn or sharing the bill with such diverse megawatt talents as: The Flashbulb, Juan Atkins, Pezzner, Proem, dj Three, Noah Pred, Phil Western, Freaky Chakra, or Luke Solomon, Manos consistently funks up the dance floor, shaking the booties and expanding the minds of the vibrant Northwest underground of which he is a passionate and deeply rooted element.

Sho Nuff (Electric Tea Garden)

Gato Negro (Shameless)

Gato Negro is really, really awesome. No, like, for real. Don’t miss him!

Shameless – Keeping it weird since 2003.

Dance yrself clean

Friday, December 30th, 2011

New Year’s Eve parties usually involve some serious planning. Otherwise you may find yourself unsuccessfully attempting to hail a cab at 11:49pm with just minutes to get across town before the clock hits midnight. We’ve all been there. This year Shameless recommends the following parties and yes, if you plan accordingly you may even be able to hit them all! Either way, they each represent a piece of Seattle’s vibrant underground dance music community that’s like no other city in this country. Ok maybe we’re a little biased. But we love you Seattle. Have a safe and happy new year!

See you at breakfast!

Ms. Dank

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

“…the closest thing to a legitimate pop star from the Northwest, but still maintains something of a DIY aesthetic. That she is able to combine the two seemingly mutually exclusive ideas and has a knack for putting together catchy pop songs is part of what makes her so interesting and exciting to me.” ..
-Three Imaginary Girls

We *heart* Lisa Dank and are excited to finally get her on the bill for one of our parties. Check out a recent release of hers on Shiny Disco Club’s Millennium Disco Comp. Vol 2. Loving the disco vibe!

Space Love

She’ll be performing live with DJ Nark of Nark Magazine at midnight this Saturday night at ETG.

Astronomar of Filejerks on Discobelle Records

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

We’re always proud to see our hardworking local DJs/Producers getting recognition outside of our little corner of the world. Big ups to Astronomar of Filejerks for his latest release off Discobelle Records.

Astronomar – Had to Move On (Hijack Remix) – Discobelle Records

Be sure to check out his Moombahton stuff on his soundcloud page too. He’ll be performing as one half of Filejerks this Saturday for The Social at ETG.

Sounds From The Sound #13 – Seattle’s Gunnar Lockwood

Gunnar Lockwood

Just before J.Phlip played her surprise guest DJ set at last months Social (ETG), Gunnar threw down a fierce live set that had the entire dance floor fired up. In case you missed it, Joe Bellingham’s Sounds from the Sound podcast this month features a fantastic example of why you should be paying attention to this up and coming live techno producer/performer.

Shameless/Innerflight Throwdown!

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Please join us on Saturday, March 26th for ROUND 2 of the recently revitalized Shameless Social! This month, we’re incredibly excited to be hosting our good friends from the ever-talented Innerflight crew in a tag-team DJ session of epic proportions. Each Shameless resident will be going head-to-head with an Innerflight resident of YOUR CHOICE! That’s right, you get to vote on the pairing! Our crews have been good friends for years, and most of us have played together at a variety of shows. But we’ve only gone head-to-head one other time, at Balls Out, an old Shameless monthly at the ReBar. Balls were out! Beats were dropped! Words were exchanged! Costumes were worn! Star-spangled banners were played! It was an outright deluge of dance music insanity. In the very end, there were no clear winners… except the dancers still standing when the lights were turned on. This time may prove to be even crazier…

-THE CONTENDERS-
Repping INNERFLIGHT:
J-Sun (AKA Frequent Flyer)
Kadeejah Streets (AKA the Wolfman’s Brotha)
Manos (AKA the hands of fun)
Rhines (AKA High hitpoint Harry)

Repping SHAMELESS:
Recess (AKA Our Fearless Founder)
Levi Clark (AKA Baby Daddy)
Joe Bellingham (AKA the Mad Baker)
Adlib (AKA Dr. D-vo!)

How will it turn out this time? Who will win? Shameless? Innerflight? one of the dynamic duos? The ETG barstaff? Your hangover? You? The answer is that nobody knows! And the only way you’re gonna find out is through voting (below), attending the show and getting down with your bad selves.

TO VOTE, PLEASE VISIT:http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/V2KY5N6

We will announce the results of the survey a few days prior to the event, then draw straws for time slots. Come early and stay late, because we assure you some awesome and unexpected shenanigans are gonna go down all night long.

Jimmy Edgar in The Stranger

Listen to Hot, Raw, Sex (!K7)

Lover. Fighter. Prophet. Freak magnet. Time-traveler. Musician, photographer and designer Jimmy Edgar is a wayward star-child streaking across the cosmic dance-floor. Endowed with a supernatural feel for futuristic funk, the Detroit native has been bleeping and grinding about the Milky Way since he was a teenage humanoid. While his peers were worrying about their grades and popularity, Edgar was spinning alongside his hometown’s DJ heroes and programming intricate beats that were unquestionably interplanetary communication disguised as dance music. In 2001 at the tender of 18, his hyper-sexed microchip stylings caught the ear of Warp, where he cranked out his brand of amped-up laptop funk for the next eight years, culminating in the full-length classic “Color Strip”. Now 26, Edgar is shaking things up at German beat boutique !K7. “When I was 18 and signed with Warp, my next goal was !K7 for some reason. I believe I attracted !K7 to me through the ‘Law of Attraction’. I think this is going to be an incredible journey.” The new album “XXX” is out at the end of July and its New Jack Swing winks as much at Minneapolis, Compton and Paris as it does Detroit or Berlin. On new turf, Edgar’s sonic prowess takes on a leaner, more radio-ready shine. “Function of Your Love” zips and struts about like something Andre Cymone might have cooked up for Jody Watley in their chart-topping heyday. On “Hot, Raw, Sex” Edgar lets the synth stabs and hand claps fly fast and loose. “In My Color” has the percolating, crystalline bounce of I:Cube’s late 90’s French Touch. “Midnite Fone Call” is the kind of lush “Quiet Storm” that Alex Gopher might kill for. “Push”, with its staccato rhythm and come-hither incantations would make Timbaland blush. The instrumental interlude “One Twenty Detail”, runs Kraftwerk through a low-rider worthy break-beat filter and “Vibration” sounds like pornographic Morse Code tapped out by Egyptian Lover. While the album is largely a one-man show, “XXX” is not without accomplices. A Latvian girl named Anet sings on “Physical Motion” and a rising new R&B singer from NYC signed to XL recordings, Azealia, ad libs on the same track. “Whenever I have worked with women and art, they have this way of putting balance into everything.” The album’s sophistication should come as no surprise, considering the mix of elements that factored in its creation. “Celibacy. Love and Loss. A myriad of intense relationships. Home studio on mostly analog equipment, finished digitally. Some recorded on tape. Some recorded frustrated, sick, broke, pissed off, in love.” Referring to other influences, Edgar adds, “I learned piano from black dudes at the Baptist church in Detroit. They taught me to extend my fingers and play from the heart.” As for Kraftwerk, the Belleville Three and the rest of the early electronic pioneers he says, “Those guys were tryin to make Stevie Wonder more danceable. They were tryin to make Prince with that equipment. That is what I do essentially.” What Edgar does essentially and very well is make your body move. Most of the time he does it alone, but there has been no shortage of willing partners. In addition to an array of remixes for everyone from pop acts like Will Smith and Scott Hardkiss to indie darlings like emo-electro duo Purple Crush and new wave soul man Theophilus London – including 2009’s cruising-with-the-top-down jams “Blindfolded” and “Higher” – he famously turned Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” inside out into a blistering workout from beyond. Deeply inspired by Jacko and incapable of standing still for very long himself, the ever-restless Edgar is eager to take his musical peep show on the road this summer. As if his beats and dancing weren’t enough, just to make his seductive intent perfectly clear, Edgar adds “I designed 12 florescent neon tubes to make an “XXX” on stage.” Ultimately, the best thing about Jimmy Edgar’s intergalactic funk is that for all its mystical kink, it’s solidly the kind of music you could easily imagine today’s pop tarts making. If Beyonce, Lady Gaga or Fergie had any sense, their million dollar booties would have Jimmy Edgar on speed dial already.
