——————————————————————————

An international force and shapeshifting duo, KMLN (pronounced “Kameleon”) unites Italian
producer/multi-instrumentalist Christopher Tooker and Canadian DJ/fashion designer Shawna Hofmann into a genre defying electronic sound that showcases their pioneering talent and global inspiration. May it be a prime time or sunrise set, they adapt to any surrounding and deliver unexpected genre-bending performances often featuring instrumentalists and dancers on stage, bridging the electronic and live music worlds and creating an unparalleled dance floor experience.

As world travelers and cultural observers, KMLN creates an astonishing trip through time and music, blending elements of deep house/techno and global/future bass, moving through tempos with layers of intricate lush melodies, rolling basslines and organic rhythms. With releases on Crosstown Rebels, Endless, Touch of Class and its own label KMLN records, their music is played by many DJs including Acid Pauli, M.A.N.D.Y, Jamie Jones, Damian Lazarus, Thugfucker and Luca Bacchetti.
Birthed in Berlin in 2011 by Christopher and now ex-partner Alex Moaca, KMLN quickly rose to fame because of its innovative addition of live musicians, which previously wasn’t part of the Berlin electronic scene. Within six months, they played all of Berlin’s world famous clubs
followed by shows in Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Sweden, France and Italy throughout 2012.

In 2013, Christopher relocated to Los Angeles and a new evolution of KMLN was born when he joined forces with Shawna Hofmann, a trend-setting architect of the Bay Area and West Coast music/art scene. Drawing from a wide range of influences, the new union of KMLN quickly won crowds over at some of the biggest festivals and clubs in Mexico, West Coast USA, Canada, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan including BPM, Time & Space, Secret Island, Lightning in a Bottle, Symbiosis Gathering, Burning Man, Shambhala, Bass Coast, and KMLN’s own world-
traveling party “Electric Safari”.
About Christopher Tooker

Christopher grew up in a very unique environment. His Finnish/American father authored several books on unconditional love, and his mother owns the first fully sustainable bed & breakfast on the island of Sardinia, Italy. Much of his youth was spent traveling with his dad on magnificent journeys worldwide to witness sacred sights throughout England, Ireland, North Africa, France, and 3 coast to coasts in America. At the age of 9, his passion for dance brought him to perform Italian shows as Michael Jackson. As a self-taught musician from the age of 14 with years spent in bands and extensive touring, Christopher was part of two successful Italian bands (Sony BMG – Warner), with several albums and videos that had rotation on MTV and All Music Italy. During 10 years of experimenting with genres and instruments, he created a 7 piece jazz-improv act, was the singer of a stoner rock band, a guitar and bass player in a successful electro-pop group and the drummer of a “Tool” inspired Italian heavy metal band. In 2010, upon moving to Berlin and hearing its innovative electronic soundscape, he immediately became inspired to merge his musical past with the sounds of the future, creating KMLN.

About Shawna Hofmann
Shawna’s passion for music began in early childhood attending the Winnipeg Music Folk festival in Canada, where she was exposed to musical genius from all over the planet, refining her ear for the origins of all types of music. At the age of 16, she hitchhiked throughout Mexico supporting herself with carving found materials and seeds into jewelry. Next came Thailand where she learned to fire dance and tattoo, then India to follow her passion for Vipassana meditation and eventually lived and traveled throughout Europe. Upon her return to America and settling down in the SF/Bay Area, the art of fire dancing, which was still unseen to most, turned her from being an introverted hermit to a sought after performer. Constructing her own costumes lead to her own fashion line that became a vastly trend-setting force in the underground festival scene worldwide. In 1999, she began performing as a DJ brewing eclectic fusions of future/global bass, moombahton, dancehall, cumbia, house, techno, disco, UK funky and tropical. She quickly became a favorite West Coast DJ and for 15 years, has been an inspirational force, cross-pollinating through various West Coast scenes and pioneering the cutting edge.

New Year’s Eve parties usually involve some serious planning. Otherwise you may find yourself unsuccessfully attempting to hail a cab at 11:49pm with just minutes to get across town before the clock hits midnight. We’ve all been there. This year Shameless recommends the following parties and yes, if you plan accordingly you may even be able to hit them all! Either way, they each represent a piece of Seattle’s vibrant underground dance music community that’s like no other city in this country. Ok maybe we’re a little biased. But we love you Seattle. Have a safe and happy new year!

See you at breakfast!

FLEA MARKET REUNION at The Social Saturday Oct 22nd

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Shameless welcomes the reunion of the infamous DJ collective FLEA MARKET to Electric Tea Garden! Formed in 2004 by Brent Tactic & Verse (aka Josh Roberts), Flea Market was a DJ collective dedicated to blending a multitude of genres ranging from electro, IDM, hip-hop and techno to deep house, glitch, tech-house and ghetto-tech. The idea was not to simply play one genre all night, but to cross-pollinate multiple genres into DJ set and make it the end result sound fun and exciting. Resident DJs Kadeejah Streets, Greg Skidmore, and Scratchmaster Joe joined Flea Market during its 2 ½ year residency at Chapel, where crazy nights of mad tag-teaming DJ sets ensued. Curious? Listen to a recording from a Flea Market party back in 2006: www.soundcloud.com/flea-market

Five years later, Flea Market reunites for one special night with The Social resident Recess. Expect lots of crazy tag-team sets from the Flea Market DJs all night long! Tactic headlines with what promises to be a fierce set largely focused on the growing moonbahton movement.

Tactic is a DJ and production team made up of Ben Tactic and Brent Tactic. The pair started working together in 2002 and immediately began to build on the success of their individual music careers. Ben’s background is based in electronic dance music and he cut his teeth playing warehouses, lofts and clubs all over the Midwest. Brent experienced great success in the hip-hop scene and split his time between djing and running an independent hip-hop label.

The two found common creative ground with the burgeoning music scene that ignored genre boundaries. Their focus became the best possible music from a broad cross section of club culture. Their 4 turntable dj sets blur the line between hip-hop, electronic and club music to get everyone’s asses shaking.

Tactic has proven just as productive in the studio as they are in the club. Their remixes and original productions have garnered international attention with plays on NYC’s East Village Radio and London’s prestigious KISS FM and BBC Radio1 as well as getting in rotation in the dj sets of Diplo, Sinden, Tittsworth, Starkey, Jackmaster, Dave Nada, Cosmo Baker and Eli Escobar. To date they have had remixes and original tracks released on labels such as Mad Decent, Dress 2 Sweat (Numbers), Starkey’s label Slit Jockey, Palms Out Sounds, Datura Records and their own label Think 2wice. With Ben now living in PDX running the groundbreaking night Bubblin and Brent residing in KC, this is a rare chance to see them perform together.

Shameless/Innerflight Throwdown!

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Please join us on Saturday, March 26th for ROUND 2 of the recently revitalized Shameless Social! This month, we’re incredibly excited to be hosting our good friends from the ever-talented Innerflight crew in a tag-team DJ session of epic proportions. Each Shameless resident will be going head-to-head with an Innerflight resident of YOUR CHOICE! That’s right, you get to vote on the pairing! Our crews have been good friends for years, and most of us have played together at a variety of shows. But we’ve only gone head-to-head one other time, at Balls Out, an old Shameless monthly at the ReBar. Balls were out! Beats were dropped! Words were exchanged! Costumes were worn! Star-spangled banners were played! It was an outright deluge of dance music insanity. In the very end, there were no clear winners… except the dancers still standing when the lights were turned on. This time may prove to be even crazier…

-THE CONTENDERS-
Repping INNERFLIGHT:
J-Sun (AKA Frequent Flyer)
Kadeejah Streets (AKA the Wolfman’s Brotha)
Manos (AKA the hands of fun)
Rhines (AKA High hitpoint Harry)

Repping SHAMELESS:
Recess (AKA Our Fearless Founder)
Levi Clark (AKA Baby Daddy)
Joe Bellingham (AKA the Mad Baker)
Adlib (AKA Dr. D-vo!)

How will it turn out this time? Who will win? Shameless? Innerflight? one of the dynamic duos? The ETG barstaff? Your hangover? You? The answer is that nobody knows! And the only way you’re gonna find out is through voting (below), attending the show and getting down with your bad selves.

TO VOTE, PLEASE VISIT:http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/V2KY5N6

We will announce the results of the survey a few days prior to the event, then draw straws for time slots. Come early and stay late, because we assure you some awesome and unexpected shenanigans are gonna go down all night long.

D.I.M. – March 14th @ Chop Suey

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Our homies over at Innerflight and Decibel invited Shameless to take over the back lounge at Chop Suey this Saturday. They are bringing in D.I.M. (Boys Noize) to headline. The main room will also be supported by Detroit influenced Jerry Abstract and Anglo Satellite. In the back lounge, resident Shameless DJs along with Pressha (Emerald City, Produkt) are holding it down. Make sure you get there early, because both rooms will be popping all night!

Pictures from Balls Out! 4 America

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Well, we finally wrapped up our 4 part Balls Out! series with “bombs bursting in air”. This series of events have been a blast and we’re incredibly grateful to our team of volunteers and participants that have helped make each month unique. Here’s a little recap of the past 4 months…

  • We hosted AC Slater (NYC) and presented Seattle’s first (& probably only) ‘dunk the hipster tank’.
  • We also brought out A1 Bassline (UK) for his Seattle debut performance and smashed a disco ball pinata in celebration of all things ridiculous.
  • Finally got to throw a Warriors themed costume party. Those that know Recess personally know that he’s been wanting to do that for years.
  • Studio 75 Exclusive and friends stopped by last month to present one hell of a sexy fashion show.
  • A bunch of bad ass local street artists showed off their talents each month in a live capacity.

For last Friday’s family style event we welcomed our good friends from the Innerflight crew to get down with us. Kinoko, Eli Heuer & special guest Fu represented on the live art front. Killing Frenzy killed it on live visuals and Luvshack’s extra bass went boom. Thanks to everyone that came out!

Click on any of the pictures below to see more. Also we should have some video posted sometime soon so check back again.

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes and gifts everyone! Time to move on to the other Tauruses that are celebrating birthdays soon.”

Broken Disco – One Year Anniversary Party!

Friday, April 4th, 2008

This has been an amazing club night! Come celebrate with us on Friday. Click the image above for more information…

Also, check out this write up in The Stranger…

Bug in the Bassbin by Donte Parks

Broken Disco Celebrates a Birthday

That must be quite the comfortable rock you’ve been living under if you’ve somehow managed to remain ignorant of Broken Disco. In a short 12 months, the night has grown from an ambitious concept to a fixture in Seattle’s nightlife, placing a consistent spotlight on local talent while hosting a diverse range of headliners.

The Voltron-esque club night combines the promotional efforts of Decibel, Sensory Effect, Shameless, and Fourthcity—transforming Chop Suey into a destination on second Fridays. Instead of the usual lineup nitpicking, Broken Disco has established itself as a trusted brand, inspiring attendance even with artists who aren’t household names, quite the feat with Seattle’s fickle audiences.

For Broken Disco’s anniversary, the promoters have opted for an all-out party assault, guaranteeing both a sweaty ceiling and noise complaints from Chop Suey’s pesky neighbors. They’re going big, bringing in a slew of out of towners instead of the usual single headliner, representing a pretty wide swath of the all-inclusive Broken Disco sound. Topping the bill is Tittsworth, the D.C.-area DJ who drops a heavy dose of Baltimore club in his catch-all party-jam sets. Former Laptop Battle champion Starkey comes from Philly, roughed-up beats in tow. Portland’s Copy will illustrate the unironic usage of keytar, while Kansas City duo Tactic will kick things off with a set heavy on their own bouncy remixes.
