Ok, it’s Wednesday night, but don’t let that stop you. Car Crash Set and Out For Stardom have stacked a line-up full of future dancefloor sounds. Combine the rich talent on this line-up with the new sound system at the Baltic Room and it’s a guaranteed good time.
Here’s what The Stranger had to say… “Local bass-music Renaissance dude Ill Cosby stacks the bill with quality for the second edition of his Diff’rent Flex monthly. Ex-Seattle, now-LA-based Samo Sound Boy creates upful, Caribbean-spiced tracks for labels like Trouble & Bass and Run Riot whose drums sound like they’re being battered with palm trees. Young Bellingham knob-twiddler Cedaa, who records for Cosby’s Car Crash Set label, has a precocious way with technically and melodically dazzling post-dubstep soulfulness. This is his Seattle debut. With LOL Boys and DJ sets by Mad Rad’s Darwin and Ill Cosby. Baltic Room, 9 pm, $5 before 11 pm/$7 after, 21+.” -Dave Segal
I just found this short video clip taken from April’s edition of Say What?! It’s only been a couple of months and I’m already missing this extremely HOT, yet short lived monthly. Buffalo Madonna and Trent Moorman saved the day when the DJ was having technical difficulties by keeping the show going with an impromptu freestyle set. The video might be a bit dark, the sound might be a bit crappy, but it was a magical clubbing moment that even the 18+ kids go to enjoy.
Too cute. Too much good music. Too much fun… and too sad it may be the last show for now. After a fantastic, but short four month run, Say What may be on hold indefinitely. It’s future uncertain. And yet, the pictures remind us of how important it can be to never miss an opportunity to dance. To always seize the moments we have while they are still in front of us. Shameless has it’s plate full this summer and will continue to be very active in the local music scene. Unfortunately this is one of the reasons why we have to take a step back from Say What. We’re incredibly grateful to so many of you that supported and believed in this night. We hope it will resurface again sometime soon. But in the meantime, there are always these great pictures for us to remember the night…
Thanks to Dave Matthews for coming down last minute to take these incredible photos.
Here’s what The Stranger had to say about tonight’s show…
You whippersnappers will be too young to remember this, but back in the day—say, like 2007—Chop Suey had the only decent 18-plus club night in town with a little monthly called Club Pop. Now two of Seattle’s most excessively ecstatic party crews, Shameless and Out for Stardom, have teamed up to present Say What! a new 18-plus dance night for a new generation of kids old enough to die for their country but not old enough to drink—with a bar for their 21-plus friends, of course. Tonight, Portland’s keytar-wielding electro auteur Copy will rock a live set, and local ADDJ Fourcolorzack will man the turntables, along with resident DJs Recess and Darwin. Now get off my lawn!
